There are dangers of using social media such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace when trying to get a job. Even though the internet is a popular way to do many things it is also still important to be cautious. It is also a popular way to job search. It can be easy, but it can also be dangerous.
One way using social media is dangerous for a job search is you don’t know who you are really dealing with while online. The person on the other end of the computer could be scamming those looking for jobs. Then there is the thought that when using social medias including Facebook you really don’t know who is going to see it. You might post something or add something to your profile related to your job search thinking only family and friends will see it. Nevertheless, others could see it as well.
While many feel using social media as part of a job search can be beneficial that doesn’t mean every element of this approach is positive. When you are applying for a job your potential employer could decide to do a search on you through the internet. They go to a social media that you frequent and in some cases are able to see your personal pages. This might not be dangerous for some, yet for others it could cause trouble.
A Facebook page for instance might display a different look at a person they have interviewed or are considering hiring. Recruiters might not like the language used by the candidate or they might not feel drinking all night is a responsible activity for one of their workers. Judging a person on their Facebook page or social media involvement might not be considered fair, but it is done. The best thing to do is – be careful.
