With increasing need to work and study, there are numerous high school kids who are trying to balance both academics and part time jobs which can be extremely stressful. However, if you are looking to help your child manage a heavy workload, there are numerous ways in which you can be an asset. Apart from helping the children learn to relax and do their best at studies and work; there are some life skills that can be taught so they are able to handle both the work and stress well. Here are some tips to help your child through the stressful times when there is a lot of work:
Help them prioritize: They may have a lot to do but sometimes the sheer stress can be confusing. You can sit down with them and just prioritize their workload whether it is for the job or at school, getting the priority right can help them think straight and tackle each project as it comes. Just writing down the ‘things-to-do’ for the next day is important.
Write it all down: If it helps you focus, let them write it all down. You can help them initially but as they get used to it, you will find them growing more responsible. Helping your child understand the importance of completing all jobs that they have taken on is equally important.
Look after Yourself: However, even though your child might be the best student or worker, sometimes, they forget to take care of themselves due to the heavy workload. But the main thing is that you can only complete each job when you have the strength to study or work. Thus, eating a healthy diet and sleeping well is essential.
As a parent, it is your duty to help and guide your child regularly but with a heavy workload, the child maybe irritated, anxious or in a panic. Therefore, keeping a positive outlook and a smile on your face goes a long way to keep the child happy and stress free even during times when they are tired or disheartened.
