Your children are growing too fast and you want to make sure they know how to spend their money wisely, right? Well, high school is a fast paced time in a kid’s life. Everything starts to be too hectic: going to college, finding part time jobs, and withstanding different influences. As a parent, you should make sure your high school kid is up to the money management task, which can be quite tough if he or she doesn’t think before spending too much.
· Strike a Strict Budget Plan – Your kid may be spending too much of his or her weekly allowance that you find him or her asking you for more every week. This is an evident example of bad money management. Sit with him or her and strike a strict budget plan. He or she must follow it or there will be a consequence.
· Educate Your Child on Future Goals – High school kids are very inquisitive. They want to know what to do next and how to get there. If you teach them values such as being goal-oriented in spending, they may take note of these and save up. This positive reinforcement is what high school kids really need, especially when it comes from their parents.
· Talk to Your Kid About Influences – Whether it is friends who spend a lot or vices that you don’t want your kid to get into, influences can hit a hole deep in your child’s wallet. You should talk to your kid about how they can ruin proper money management. Also, you yourself should stem away from these influences so your child doesn’t argue back leaving the whole lecture pointless.
High school is, indeed, a hectic time for kids and even more for money management. Faced with friends and temptations, your kids could face difficulty in money management. Proper budget plans and talks with your kid can change things, especially when you are involved in his or her life.
